I am a graduate student in economics at Harvard University. I have a couple of research and business ideas that I would love to discuss with you. One if the ideas would simply further our knowledge of education. The other idea has both financial and humanitarian goals, and might improve life in countries around the world. Dear Michael
I am a teacher and I have no problem with your website. In fact I think it is such a good thing that I have a suggestion for you which I know would go down a storm with teachers in the UK: Rate my Inspector.com.

I don’t know how much you know about Ofsted, but most teachers have stories about how inspectors have been rude and intimidating during the inspection process. Others however are friendly and helpful.

In one recent article in the Times Educational Supplement, an Ofsted inspection team put a school (which had previously been outstanding) into special measures, and were so rude to the headteacher that he lost all confidence in himself and resigned. A few days later, Ofsted recanted on the report and said that they had made an error with the initial number crunching.

In view of the number of horror stories that I have been privy to in my short career of 4 years, I feel that a RateMyInspector.com website would help teachers to feel more empowered and give them an outlet for their feelings (no matter how unofficial!)

What do you think?

Thanks very much for creating the ratemyteachers website. I do hope your proud of yourself in breaking down the trust between pupils and teachers here in the UK. Your parents must be proud. Fantastic how you have managed for pupils to write what they like using text messaging slang about anything that takes their fancy. For example, imagine a pupil who gets a detention for not completing coursework etc….hmmm…i wonder. Are they going to leave positive feedback or negative!

I will personally now set up a website based on you so that ALL teachers in the uk can leave their comments about how they feel regarding YOUR professionalism and lack of respect for the difficult jobs we do.

Have fun reading the web comments. I am sure you will find them as nice to read as UK teaching staff. Oh and by the way teachers do not like their details being left on a public website POSITIVE or NEGATIVE FEEDBACK!!

Hi Michael, I am wondering if you have done any research about the surname Hussey? It is my maiden name and I have found it comes from the County Kerry in Ireland. The Hussey family emigrated to NY/Boston starting in 1904…although I think some Hussey family members may have come over before that. My great great grandfather was Edward Hussey, his son was John Hussey and John’s six sons were Patrick, Thomas, John, Edward, Michael and James. The family centered around the Dingle area…Fahamore and the Maharees Peninsula. I’d be interested to hear if you have any information to share about the Hussey family. Thanks! Take an actual look at the site and you will notice that “the kid who doesnâ€™t go to class, doesnâ€™t do his or her work, and frankly doesnâ€™t give a damn” also doesn’t give a damn enough to rate his or her teachers either. We typically do not attract passionless students to post their opinions.

We do get “honest, well-thoughout responses” by the thousands every day…the proof is in the site itself.

As a teacher and coach, I’m very concerned about your RateMyTeacher.com website. How can you claim that the site is there for teachers to improve in the classroom, and then allow people to post responses with complete anonymity? I spend almost 16 hours a day busting my ass between teaching and coaching, and the kid who doesn’t go to class, doesn’t do his or her work, and frankly doesn’t give a damn, can go online and rip me a new one without any consequences. Tell me, which teacher did such a number on you that you feel this is the only way to get back at them? At what point in your education were you so emotionally wounded? Or are you just trying to make a quick buck? Whatever the case may be, please stop lying to people about how this website is good for students and teachers. I promise you that if you made people post their names, you’d get honest, well-thoughout responses. I challenge you to make this change, and let the truth come out. Otherwise, your hurting the innocent, and rewarding the undeserving.

I have been rated on your website. I do like parts of it. I have been rated well by students who like me. However, the things that I do not agree with is the ability of being able to post without name. I have had several hurtful things written about me by students. The group of work with has some of the toughest and hardest students in the school. I work my butt off to ensure that they recieve a proper education. I care about every one of them. I am tough, but fair. Because of this, I get a swift kick in the butt by those that I don’t allow to run rough shod over me. In my opinion, if you can’t say it too my face don’t say it at all.

Dear Mr Hussey, I am a young teacher living and working in a primary school in Scotland. I was just wondering what kind of young, irresponsible man was behind the creation of a website which allows people to make libellous comments about the teaching profession. Have you ever considered that your site may be the contributer to a suicide? I don’t suppose that matters to you as long as you make money. The teaching unions in the UK are very aware of this site and have given the members assurances that they will fund any private prosecution that we may wish to bring. The law in the UK is very different to that of the USA when it comes to libel. If I have to be the first to start an action, then so be it and there is every possibility that you may be taken to court in this country. Your advertisers on the UK site all seemed to be horrified to be associated with what you are doing, and many of them are beginning to withdraw their advertising contracts with you. You photograph is everything I thought it would be, a young, money-obsessed youth who knows he is doing wrong but has a defiant attitude. This site could only have been creared by an American and I am going to try my best to have you closed down.
